A Week in Review: Our favorite’s

Looking back in the week we gave tried dozens of different dishes all unique from one another. However, here is a look at our favorite places and dishes that we had this week:

Coming in at #1: ARMSBY ABBEY’S with their Fried Chicken and Mac and Cheese! The chicken left Yasmeen in tears… its better to cry over chicken than over a guy! The Mac and cheese was LIFE CHANGING and we will just leave it at that.

Coming in close 2nd: Sweet Evalina’s pizza was SPECTACULAR! This pizza can cure the worst of breakups and is more loyal than any guy!

Our 3rd Favorite: Our Father’s Table… One word to describe this outstanding breakfast place is CARDIO because unless you’re Yasmeen after you eat one pancake you will more stuffed than the teddy bear your ex gave you for Valentine’s Day!

Honorable Mentions: Victoria Station…. Jessica Tuesday’s…… BirchTree Bread Company

This week we not only died and went to heaven because of all the amazing foods we tried, but we made many lasting memories… even though we didn’t get stew at the STEW and story. Although the stew stood us up like that guy you were supposed to meet at the movies…. we got to try so many different foods that make up for it!

George’s Bakery

For lunch we decided to try something different and we ordered take out from George’s Bakery. This bakery serves up a plethora of Syrian food that gives you a glimpse of Syrian culture and food. When you first walk in you are hit with a mix of different smells from the endless walls stacked with fresh baked dishes. While there is no place to sit down to eat and the atmosphere takes a little getting used to it is amazing to see another culture’s style of food. Find out more here!

What did we get: We ordered a bunch of different dishes including stuffed squash, mini meat pies, naan bread, and a spinach and cheese pie. We tried everything, but the stuffed squash and although it was great to try another cultures food, we have to admit we weren’t a huge fan of the meat pies or spinach and cheese pie. The spinach in the other pie was very sour, which is how it is supposed to taste, but it is an acquired taste. However, I thought the naan bread was delicious! It was like pita bread and was nice and light after a week filled with heavy foods. The two women who gave us our food were so helpful and very friendly. They gave us a little insight into their culture and were very patient with our large group!

Inn At Woodstock Hill

Last night we went out to dinner at the Woodstock Inn. The Woodstock Inn was having a Story and Stew night, where we wold be eating stew and there were two story readers. We were surprised to find there was no stew but the stories were pleasant. We both had chicken tenders that cane with vegetables and mashed potatoes. We both had different desserts which we both did enjoy. The Woodstock seemed to be filled with more of the older generation and did not seem that kids our age, high school students would come here.Visit their website here!

Yasmeen’s Dessert: For dessert I had a slice of Tiramisu cake. It was my first time ever trying tiramisu, but it was delightful. If you’ve never had it before it has a nice coffee taste to it and nice creamy frosting. This cake in my opinion made up for the fact there was no stew at dinner. I wish I was able to have another slice of cake.

Meghan’s Dessert: I decided to get the chocolate raspberry mousse for dessert. I would describe the mousse as being rich, sweet and creamy. I was disappointed that there was no stew at dinner, and I was really looking forward to eating it. The chicken I had was pretty good and the vegetables I had on my plate were great.

BirchTree Bread Company

To start the morning off we went to the BirchTree Bread Company in Worcester, MA. This place is similar to Victoria Station in Putnam, CT, but has a larger variety of food to choose from. When you first walk in the atmosphere gives you a modern and unique feeling. It is not your normal run of the mill quaint coffee shop. It has a more modern, city like feel and is a great place to meet with a group of friends due to its large space. What is different about this place is that they specialize in breads, toasts, sandwiches, and the numerous other food groups that fall under those categories. Check them out here!

Our Thoughts: To start the morning we ordered tea, chocolate chip cookie, a caramel latte, and a chocolate croissant. Let me just start by saying the chocolate croissant was one of the best pastries I’ve ever put in my mouth. Not only was it gigantic in size, but it was chocolaty and tasted very fresh. The service at BirchTree was awesome especially considering the size of the group we are traveling with. They worked quickly and were very patient as us indecisive teens tried to choose what we wanted off of there never ending menu. Whether you want a coffee, pastry, tea, sandwich, or are just looking for a place to meet with friends, BirchTree is great for any of them! While I wouldn’t go there if you are a coffee fanatic, they have an endless selection of sandwiches, breads, and even a great selection of pastries!

Sweet Evalina’s

For lunch today we went to Sweet Evalina’s stand in Woodstock, CT and we had their amazing pizza. Between the two of us we tried the Tomato Basil pizza and a meat lovers pizza. The stand had a gorgeous view of the lake behind it and is perfect if you want to eat outside on a spring day.

Yasmeen’s Thoughts: First off I will say I am not a big cheese lover. So, eating pizza today I was a little hesitant, but the pizza I tried today was pretty good. The cheese wasn’t too over powering and you could tell the focus was on the meat. The view from where I was sitting was beautiful with the water right there. Overall a nice place to go and eat.

Meghan’s Thoughts:  If you go to Sweet Evalina’s you will experience the most amazing pizza you have ever tried. I had the tomato basil pizza, which is a white pizza, and it was amazing. The cheese and tomatoes on the pizza tasted super fresh and the garlic sauce was not too overpowering. The crust was my favorite because it was thin and crispy yet, still soft on the inside. It definitely tasted homemade and was the best pizza crust I have ever tried. Overall, I will without a doubt be returning to Sweet Evalina’s in the future!

Ben’s Beans

To start off the morning today, we went to a coffee shop called, Ben’s Beans. If you are looking for a quick grab and go or a place that specializes in all sorts of coffee Ben’s Beans if definitely fro you. However, if you are not a fan of coffee they offer a few different types of teas. While their coffee was delicious if you are not a hard core coffee drinker Ben’s Beans might not be for you. With the small size of the cafe it gave off a cozy feel that would be great for grabbing coffee with friends or doing some intense studying! Visit their website here!

Yasmeen’s Order:  Today I ordered a Dirty Chai and chocolate chip cookie. The Dirty Chai was just like any other normal chai tea, but there was coffee in this drink. If you ever needed that extra kick in the morning this would be a good drink to get, but if you are not a coffee person they also had normal chai teas. The chocolate chip cookie was pretty big, but was still delicious. There weren’t too many pastries here because you can tell it was more about the coffee. So, if you don’t mind not having a pastry with your coffee this is a good place to go.

Meghan’s Order: To start off, I decided to order an iced caramel latte and let me just say if you need a kick start Ben’s Beans is definitely for you. Their coffee tastes fresh and gives you the caffeine boost you need to get through your early morning. There was a ton of different coffee roasts, flavors, specialties, and more that you could choose from, but if you are not a coffee drinker I would try somewhere else. I would highly recommend Ben’s Beans if you need a pick me up, are a coffee fanatic, or want to grab a quick cup of coffee. I was very impressed with the fact that there was only one person working and she got everything done quickly, but with quality.

Jessica Tuesday’s

For lunch today we visited Jessica Tuesday’s in Putnam, CT! We decided to order two turkey sandwiches and a chocolate chip cookie. We also had strawberry lemonade to drink along with them. Jessica Tuesday’s is perfect for anything from enjoying lunch outside with friends or settling inside to do some homework. The atmosphere is cozy yet modern and unique. We even got the chance to meet the owner, Jessica and she was not only welcoming, but she also accommodated to the size of our party very well! All of the waitresses were also super patient and friendly.

Yasmeen’s Thoughts: The turkey sandwich was absolutely phenomenal! The sandwich was called “Premium Turkey,” I didn’t have any cheese or tomatoes on my sandwich and it was still delicious. The chocolate chip cookie was soft and freshly baked. I would definitely go back to Jessica Tuesday’s again some day. You should too!!

Meghan’s Thoughts:  I ordered my turkey sandwich without any mayo or tomato and I have to say it was incredible. I am pretty picky when it comes to my deli meats, but the turkey was super fresh and surpassed my expectations. The bread on the sandwich also tasted fresh and was not hard. The strawberry lemonade that they gave us to drink was delicious and you can tell it was homemade. There was fresh mint and strawberries that made even more enjoyable! For more information find their website here!
